Ben Kalyvas - Professional Image Meet Ben Kalyvas, a trusted and experienced Chiropractor who is also a good friend of mine. I was interested in seeing what made Ben tick professionally in relation to health & the services he provides – so enjoy the read:

What does “health” mean to you?

Health, to me, is more than just being disease free. It is when the body is able to perform at its peak, with no interferences. It is when we are able to express our own full potential.  Being healthy is so much more than not being sick, and that’s probably the biggest difference in how I see it. As a chiropractor, I promote healthy choices and these are choices that affect the person both physically and mentally.

Regarding overall health, how important is the mind-body connection – please explain a little?

I’ve always been a big believer of the mind-body connection. It is at the core of what we do as chiropractors. We believe that the nervous system is the “King” system of the body. It tells the body everything, from breathing and the heart beating, to kicking a football or playing with the kids. The brain is the most important organ in the body, so with a healthy brain there is a healthy body. When the mind is healthy, everything just works better! We feel better, we perform better and we live better. I cannot stress enough the importance of a healthy and positive mindset.

Have you used NLP or hypnotherapy and if so, what results have you achieved through them?

I personally haven’t, but I have always held a healthy fascination for it. I have read a few books on NLP and can definitely see its uses. I sometimes implement some of the things I have learnt from those books in my day-to-day life, however I am nowhere near an expert on the matter! That’s where Chantelle comes in to it.

Can you share a little with us about your personal journey and how you got here?

I was adjusted as a new born – only hours old my chiropractor checked my spine and adjusted me.  I have grown up with chiropractic, and I found myself taking far less sick days and being on far less medications than other kids my age. It wasn’t until high school that I even thought of chiropractic as a career. A friend who played tennis with my brother started studying it at university when I was in year 10 and I thought to myself, “If he can do it, then what would be stopping me from doing it?”. To this day it is still one of the best decisions I have made. I still go to chiropractors regularly to help keep me in top condition. For me it is an essential part of my day.

How do you help people through being a Chiropractor?

I help people in all types of ways. Whether it’s to alleviate pain, help them get back to sports quicker, or as a wellness tool, helping to keep their body and nervous systems working well. People come in for all different reasons, and I am more than happy to help anybody and everybody with whatever they need.

What is something about chiropractic treatment a lot of people might not be aware of – please explain a little?

Chiropractic is so specific to different people. As a chiropractor, I adjust the spine and the nervous system. When those nerves are able to function at their optimum, it opens a varied and wide amount of potential awesomeness.

Why is it so important for you to help people?

Helping people is not only something that I do; it’s who I am. It is such an important part of my life. I am enriched by the amount of people I can help, and the more the better! It’s a very fulfilling experience. It is everything to me.

What is one very valuable lesson you have learned on your own personal journey?

Luck has nothing to do with it! When people say “you’re so lucky to… etc”, I like to tell them that luck has nothing to do with it. It is sacrifice, hard work, and goal setting that gets people where they are, not luck!

What advice do you have for people wanting to make change and improve their lives?

Just do it. There is no time like right now to just make a change. Change is scary, and to a lot of people it’s something that doesn’t happen very often. Just take the plunge and do it, because at the end of the day, you are only delaying yourself.
