I have known Ros Betts for a very long time – she is a close and treasured family friend! Ros uses various natural techniques such as Horstmann Technique, various Massage Techniques, Foot Reflexology, Reiki, Medicine Drum & Shamanic Healing and Sound Therapy to help people change their lives, and recently added hypnotherapy to her tool belt. That extensive tool belt makes me very curious…
What does “healthy” mean to you?
At the core of my being, I believe that being healthy is a whole of body ‘condition’ that includes the whole-ingof the body, mind and spirit. We are made up of layers of energy that originate from the cosmic connection and moves through the various bodies and into our physical body. Each of these bodies need to be in balance for us to maintain optimum ‘health’, as the laws of nature have intended for our physical body.Ultimately though, I believe that we are a Soul, having an Earthly experience in the body that we inhabit as the vehicle for that experience.
What do you practice in and please explain a little about each?
I really enjoy teaching and helping clients to know about these bodies and how to manage the balancing act, as the goal that we work toward. Massage or Horstmann Technique is where I may start working with a client so that we are getting to know each other and gain rapport through bodywork of physical touch that is addressing an immediate body issue or problem like lower back pain. Massage is usually undressed on a massage table and using oil to help the hands slide over the body and limbs in various combinations of strokes to soften and relax the muscles and connecting tissues. Horstmann Technique is a fully clothed method whilst laying on the table and some of the releases can be performed sitting in a chair. This technique utilises various energy points on the body whilst the relevant limb is moved through a range of movement to release energy blocks in the chi (sometimes called prana) energy system that circulates throughout the physical body. There are other releases that go further into the mental and spiritual bodies and deal with releasing old energy and issues that have stuck in those energy layers.
Have you personally experienced hypnotherapy before?
I have personally experienced hypnotherapy twice before doing the course with Evolve Hypnotherapy. The first was with my GP back in 1983 as a way to manage pain levels that I was expecting with the upcoming birth of my third child. At that time I went through 3 sessions with him and felt partway through the 3rd session that I just wasn’t getting into the trance at all, so we agreed to drop it.
The second time I had the experience of a session of hypnosis was about 10 years later and I was a guinea pig for a friend of mine who was learning hypnosis and she needed a practice. I thought to myself “she won’t get me under” and I was wrong. It was a lovely experience and I felt wonderful afterwards. I can’t remember what the suggestions were, but I do remember feeling a huge release and being at peace.
At the Evolve Hypnotherapy Practitioner Course, WOW, that was an amazing experience!
Why did you become a certified hypnotherapist and where to from here?
I felt that I needed a technique that could link a way of coaching/counselling for the client that was based on their own ability to source their own answers within themselves. Hypnosis was the answer to my inner question and after the course I knew it was the right decision to follow this option to help clients from a holistic perspective. By having the client directly involved in the decisions of what they need, allows them to be empowered with their own healing journey.I will move forward with the hypnotherapy as a stand-alone therapy initially. One pathway I see as well is that I would like to investigate ways that it can be used with Sound Therapy.
How are you helping people in their journey to improve their quality of life & why is this important to you?
My clients will leave feeling relaxed and a lot less stressed. There have been many ‘AHA’ moments they have found in sessions, especially during the Drumming and Guided Meditation sessions.Mostly, they have been able to ‘Let Go and Get Out of Their Own Way’ to let change happen. What is important to me for my clients is for them to be able to help themselves with confidence, by communicating with their Higher/Inner Self and following their intuition. I feel blessed when I see them grow and change, which ultimately improves their quality of life because it is coming from their heart.
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to make changes in their lives?
Let go of past beliefs and be open to what your intuition guides you toward.
What is one very valuable and important lesson you have learned on your own personal journey that you can share?
At a time when I was really stuck in my life, I experienced a ‘meditation’ that took me to places I have never been before. It was as if I was really there, and I believe that I was. The connection was in the cosmic realms and with the Source. There was a time after that when I was confused about what name to call this Source. As I was brought up in a Christian home, this was way outside what I had learnt until that point in my life. I have come to realise that it isn’t the Name we give anything that is important. It is the being who we are, connecting with the Source within that is our Soul.We are all connected, and each one of us are individuals within the whole. What one does affects the whole; the ripples in a pond from that one drop.
What are some of your greatest personal achievements?
My greatest achievement has been my family. At the same time of raising my children my husband and I were growing a business. It grew to be quite successful but in the process of that growth I wasn’t being heard and eventually we parted ways and divorced after being married for 33 years. I began looking after the whole of me, and started doing the studies to learn ways of helping people to be heard and be authentic to themselves. All round, every experience I have had has ultimately been my greatest personal achievement – in that Present moment – and perfect timing for where I needed to be in my personal journey in this lifetime.
What are your ultimate goals then?
Ultimately, I just want to be me in helping others to be themselves. To have a full timetable of clients is one of my goals, and to hold workshops and events that can maximise the number of people I am able to share with.Retreats have been a vision I’ve had and drumming circles, flute playing……
I will always be a student (of life) and I want to remain open to what teachings others have for me and being able to teach what I have gathered as my learnings and experiences.
Who are your inspirations (if any)?
Rumi, Eckhart Tolle, Jonathon Goldman, Annette Noontil, Trish Troubridge of the Horstmann Technique, Mary Laslett who is a singer/songwriter & Sound Healer, Liz Cooper of British Academy of Sound Therapy to name a few.
My Soul. And my Dad.
Any other comments you wish to make?
I would like to thank Chantelle for asking me these questions. They have been very helpful in getting me to think more about where I’m heading with my work and life balance. So often we can be so caught up in Survival mode that we forget to connect with our Spirit often enough!
And it was great connecting and working together within the Evolve Hypnotherapy Practitioner course.
